Alopecia Areata

Alopecia is an umbrella term representing several different hair loss conditions, which remand from Patchy thinning to complete baldness and, in extreme cases, hair loss on the face, scalp, and body. Alopecia Areata is often an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system attacks the follicles. It is one of the most common forms of Alopecia though there are various types, each with different characteristics and effects.

Alopecia is considered a medical condition; it differs from the most common type of hair loss, Male and female pattern baldness. A condition termed Androgenetic Alopecia.

Early Signs of Alopecia:
- Hair breaking and shaft thinning
- You feel like you are shedding more than you used to
- Clumps prof hair missing in spots on your scalp
- Patches come out when you wash your hair
- Multiple bald patches across the scalp

Alopecia Woman

Regardless of circumstance, hair loss can be a traumatic experience, easily devastating one's self-image and confidence. For somebody experiencing hair loss as the result of treatment for, or due to the effects of an illness like cancer, aesthetic appearances are certainly not a top priority. For many though, outward appearance can come to function as a source of pride and predictability during a time when so much can feel like it's beyond your control.

And while nowhere near as serious as illnesses like cancer, Lupus, or Hashimoto's disease, hair loss resulting from hormonal alopecia (male or female pattern baldness) can have debilitating impacts on a person's well-being, often leading to increases in stress and anxiety. So much of our identity is tied to our hair, and simply having confidence in our locks, not feeling self-conscious out in public or when passing by a mirror, makes all the difference in the world.
